The Wounded Warrior

Wounded Warrior

Most people perceive me to be a strong and mighty woman of God.  My husband at times calls me his spiritual ninja’.  But even a warrior sustains wounds in a battle where some are not visible to the naked eye.

The word warrior is frequently used to describe a person who is very strong and does not give up easily.  Oh, what a true statement that is!  Warriors are expected to fight, push, and march through tough terrains while enduring heavy hardships. It does not matter what the warrior is facing, they are expected to fight to the very end.

I may not be in a physical war, but when I came into the Kingdom of God I was enlisted as a solider and a warrior for Christ.  In all honesty, life itself has enlisted me as a warrior through the many roles I play.   But I proudly wear my badge of honour as I undertake warfare for my marriage, children, family, life pursuits and the church.  I can remember asking the Heavenly Father, “who looks out for the warrior should they get wounded?”

Yes! The warrior gets wounded at times…   The constant pushing and tugging in life cause a warrior to be tired and overwhelmed; situations and circumstances inflicts deep wounds to the warrior.  But, … how and when does the warrior gets restored?

David defeated the giant, Goliath, and slew ten thousand but he needed a moment; he needed a time and place to rest, replenish and be restored from the battle wounds.  Every warrior needs such moments in time where they lay down their weapons, armour and sword and give themselves to a time of healing and restoration.

There is such a moment! David penned his experience of such healing in Psalm 23.  Here, David shows and teaches us how the wounded warrior can find rest, be replenished, and be fully restored.

Psalm 23 [NLT]

A Psalm of David.

“1 The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.
2 He lets me rest in green meadows; He leads me beside peaceful streams.
3 He renews my strength. He guides me along the right paths, bringing honor to His name.
4 Even when I walk through the darkest valley,[a]I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.
5You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with Oil. My cup overflows with blessings.
6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me, all the days of my life, and I will live in the House of the Lord forever.”
